When you should replace the battery

Open Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. Replace it if:

• Maximum capacity is below 80%
• iOS shows the "Service" message
• The phone shuts down unexpectedly with charge remaining
• It only lasts half a day on light use

Apple vs independent: what you give up

Apple uses genuine parts and keeps your warranty intact. An independent shop is faster (often same day) and cheaper, but on iPhone 12 and later, non-Apple batteries trigger a "Genuine Apple Battery" warning in Settings. The phone still works perfectly — just expect that notice.
